We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher with interest in synaptic transmission for a 3-year position to start at September 15th 2020 or after agreement.
Background
The position is part of the project “Neurodevelopmental disorders and the synapse” funded by Lundbeckfonden. It is a collaboration with the Danish Epilepsy Hospital Filadelfia (Dr. Elena Gardella and Dr. Rikke Møller), Vrije Universiteit Medical Center, Amsterdam (Prof. Dr. Matthijs Verhage) and Associate Professor Jean-Francois Perrier within our department. The project involves novel human and animal models for neurodevelopmental disorders caused by mutation of the synaptic release machinery, as well as systematic comparison to human patient data. We want to test the specific hypothesis that an imbalance in the ratio between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission leads to hyperexcitability and Intellectual Disability.
Our research
The Sørensen group is highly interactive and characterized by team work. The team is interdisciplinary and international and we welcome team members of any nationality, gender and age. Our work is focused on understanding the molecular mechanism of synaptic transmission and neurotransmitter release, and to understand the consequences of disease conditions. Work is carried out on neuroendocrine cells and central synapses with a range of methods, including molecular biology, cell biology, advanced microscopy, patch-clamp electrophysiology and electrochemistry. Information on the Sørensen group can be found on https://in.ku.dk/research/jakob-balslev-soerensen/. The group is located in the Mærsk Tower, within the vibrant research environment of Department of Neuroscience. Information on the department can be found at: https://in.ku.dk/
