Master Thesis 30 hp: Automatic Visualisation of Build Chains and Development Processes hos Saab AB

Automatically combine and visualise build chains and development processes to pinpoint bottlenecks and improve resource allocation.

Background

With large software products comes complex build and development processes. It is important to get a detailed overview of the entire pipeline, to develop an understanding of the complete product and how all parts of the software are connected. This makes possible to find bottlenecks and other issues in the process, and learn how to correct them.

To visualise all these part would be a great way to get the necessary overview, but it is time consuming and difficult to actually connect all parts when they are not designed to be connected. Furthermore, what is developed and used today might (will) not be used tomorrow, and quick interchangeability in the process and visualisation is a must.

In this thesis, we want to explore the creation of such an automatic visualisation tool, and whether it is beneficial to elevate the understanding of interconnections between parts of the pipeline. Such parts included requirements, errors, tests, technical debt, resources, and deliveries.

Description of the master thesis

This thesis will consist of three parts. The first part involves researching build chains and development processes, together with visualisation possibilities and how and what to communicate between different parts. The second phase consists of implementing the findings from the previous phase, and phase three will be an evaluation of the benefits and usability of the implementations.

Your profile

We are looking for 2 master degree students with an interest in:

  • System architecture

  • Software development

  • Innovation

You are at the end of your master’s degree in Computer engineering, Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent, and is eligible for your 30 HP degree project.

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.

X Innovation Lab is a group working with new technology and new ways of working within SAAB Radar Solutions in Göteborg. We do research and create prototypes that are then used in the on-going development of SAAB’s products.
