Team Overview and Job ResponsibilitiesThe activity will take place in the R&D headquarter laboratory of Prysmian Group, in Milan, in the frame of research projects run in cooperation with academic research.
Scope of the work is the study, design, and experimental testing of optoelectronic instruments for optical fiber sensing, in particular for distributed acoustic sensing (but not limited to this field).
Starting from the review of the available literature and patents, the researcher will propose a preferred architecture, select appropriate optical and optoelectronic components in the market and manage specific development of missing parts with third parties.
The researcher will realize a laboratory prototype to study the measurement technique implemented, exploring performance and limits of components while comparing them against theory.
After a laboratory validation, the researcher will define the electronics requirements for the engineering of the instrument, specifying receivers, analog filters and preamplifiers and digitizers; he will also manage the realization of those components with third parties.
The researcher can deal also with the computational aspects of the instrument’s development. In particular, he can write the software to drive the instrument, at least at laboratory prototype level, as well as the code for (possibly real-time) digital signal processing and data analysis and visualization. The candidate can also deal with the choice of the most suitable computational platform, dimensioning the hardware needed to run the instrument and to satisfy its requirements in terms of computational burden and data storage. The ability to deal also with the final instrument firmware code is appreciated.
Who are we looking for?The position is exposed internally to Prysmian R&D, and externally to university research and suppliers.
- Scientific background in photonics, physics, electronic, optoelectronic or telecommunication engineering, or an equivalent formation;
- Experience in signal theory, digital signal processing and scientific programming.
- Laboratory (and programming) enthusiast,
- Proven experimental experience is mandatory
- PhD title already gained or to be gained latest within one-year time is a preferred title; an equivalent knowledge achieved in the technical field is also accepted.
This position is ideal to exploit brilliant ideas and transform them into real instruments for the business’ benefit.
